Enniskillen has the unique honour of being the only town in Great Britain and Ireland to confer its name on two regiments, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, now part of the Royal Irish Regiment and the Royal Dragoon Guards respectively.

Enniskillen Castle is the birthplace of our regiments, and a visit to the Inniskillings Museum is a journey through more than 330 years of a proud military heritage from their formation in 1689.

The museum houses a rich collection of personal treasures and battlefield curios, weapons and army vehicles, medals and uniforms, art and musical instruments, regimental silver and trophies.

Interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and life-size dioramas help our artefacts tell the acclaimed story of fearless Inniskillings who wore a castle on their badge with distinction.

Entrance and exit

There is a free carpark outside Enniskillen Castle which includes 5 accessible parking bays, clearly marked and several cycle stands. A drop off point is available in front of the main gate. There is a step-free route from the carpark to the Visitor Centre. The main entrance to the Visitor Centre is accessible, with a dropped curb on the corner pavement.

Belfast

Toilets

Toilets, including accessible toilets, are located in the Visitor Information Centre and the Heritage Centre. An accessible toilet room is available on site via the Visitor Information Centre’s reception.

Baby Changing Facilities

Stations are available for use in the Visitor Information Centre and the Heritage Centre.

The Galleries

Galleries in The Curved Range are at ground level and are accessible, but please be aware that the cobbled areas of the Courtyard may prove difficult for some. The galleries on the ground floor of the Keep are accessible, but the upper floors are only accessible by stairs. We are sorry! It is an really old building, and we can’t add a lift. Please note that lightening is dimmed in the Castle Keep for conservation of exhibition objects.

The Museum Shop

There is a short steep slope off the courtyard, a cobbled gulley at the bottom, more cobbles and then a short narrow portable ramp into the building, The entrance is wide and opens lightly and there is level access through it. A handling collection is available to all here.

Road Safety

At Enniskillen Castle, the courtyard is used as a parking area for offices, which can be busy on weekdays with cars coming in and out of the main gates at regular intervals. Please be careful.
