Since 2013 Mike has had a strong involvement with the North Irish Horse Regimental Association, (NIHRA) firstly through the Downshire School Tank Project in collaboration with the NIHRA. In 2017 he turned his attention to assisting the late Major (Rtd) Rey Kirk MBE and then Dr Laura Patrick (Museum Director) in reorganising and updating the Regimental Association Register and checking and cataloguing the substantial NIH archives and property, ultimately leading to the creation of a Property Book.
In 2024 the NIH Trustees appointed Mike as their representative on the new Museum Collections Board, and later he was appointed as Trustee and Director of the UNTOLD: The Collections and Archives Ltd.
Mike works tirelessly to build up the NIH Heritage collection within the Museum, seeking donations and artefacts from former personnel and other museums. He has purchased two major collections which will be donated to the Museum and volunteers countless hours to help raise the Museum profile and that of the NIH Regiment within it, thus perpetuating the legacy of its proud role within the history of the Irish soldier in the British Army.
In the King’s Birthday Honours List Mike was suitably recognised for his hard work and dedication through the award of an MBE for Services to Military History in Northern Ireland.
